What you should know about SSENSE

SSENSE, pronounced “essence”, was founded in Montreal in 2003 by the brothers Rami, Firas and Bassel Atallah. It sells designer fashion and high-end streetwear, runs its site in English, French, Japanese, Chinese and Korean, and in 2018 opened a flagship in a 19th-century Montreal building remodelled by David Chipperfield's studio. In 2025, after a clash with its lenders and blaming higher US tariffs, SSENSE sought creditor protection in Canada; in February 2026 it left the process through a court-approved, founder-led buy-out.

Orders ship from Canada. According to SSENSE's FAQ, in more than 40 countries duties and taxes are included in the final price at checkout and the order ships DDP (delivered duty paid); elsewhere it ships DDU, and local customs can charge duties and import taxes on delivery, which have to be paid to receive the parcel. Prices are cut mainly in the seasonal sales, which unfold in several rounds, and the range includes pieces made exclusively for SSENSE.

Because markdowns arrive in rounds, the same jacket or pair of sneakers can change price several times in one season, while popular sizes disappear in between. A SaleAlarm on the product page emails you whenever the price falls, so you don't have to check back after every round. When the alert comes in, look at the checkout total for your country, including any duties, before deciding whether the reduction is worth it.

    Saving tips for SSENSE

    • SSENSE often reduces items further as the sale goes on. If your size is still well stocked, waiting for the next round can pay off – your alarm tells you when it happens.

    • SSENSE runs separate regional versions of its site, such as en-us for the US and en-gb for the UK. Save the product link from the version you'll actually order from, so the price SaleAlarm tracks is in your currency and matches your checkout.

    • Pieces made exclusively for SSENSE aren't sold by other retailers, so there's no point hunting for them elsewhere. If one is on your list, set the alert early – a markdown on SSENSE itself is the only kind of reduction you'll get.
