Target opened its first store in Roseville, Minnesota, in 1962 and is headquartered in Minneapolis. It runs more than 2,000 stores, all in the United States – its only expansion abroad, Target Canada, closed in 2015. On target.com it sells groceries, home goods, toys, electronics and clothing, with a large share of the range coming from Target's own brands and limited designer collaborations. Third-party sellers add further products through the Target Plus marketplace.

Target's prices combine weekly ad deals, personalized Target Circle offers and multi-day Target Circle Week events. Target Circle itself is free; the Target Circle Card (formerly RedCard) gives 5% off most purchases, and Target Circle 360 is a paid membership for same-day delivery. Target's price match now only covers its own prices: if target.com or your local store sells an identical item for less within 14 days of your purchase, you can ask for the difference.

That 14-day window is where a price alert earns its keep: if something you've just bought gets cheaper on target.com, you'll find out while you can still request an adjustment. Clearance, closeout and refurbished items are excluded, though. Variants matter as well – sizes, colors and pack counts usually have their own prices, and Target Plus partners set theirs independently – so track exactly the version you'd order.
