What you should know about JD Sports
JD Sports opened its first shop in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1981 under the name John David Sports, after its founders John Wardle and David Makin. Today JD Sports Fashion is listed on the London Stock Exchange and runs JD stores across the UK, with its largest flagship at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. JD entered the US in 2018 by buying Finish Line, has been opening JD stores there ever since – including a Times Square flagship – and sells online at jdsports.com.
In both countries JD runs JD STATUS, a free loyalty programme. UK members build up JD Cash that can be spent online or in store, while US members collect points that convert into STATUS Cash; in the US you can also link your account to Nike Membership to unlock selected member-only Nike products. Alongside the sale section and Black Friday, the UK site regularly runs multi-buy deals on clothing, such as two items for a fixed price.
Many trainers at JD are labelled JD Exclusive – colourways sold only by JD – so you can't simply compare their price with the brand's own shop. Each colourway has its own product page, and stock is held size by size. Set the alert on the exact colour you want: when an exclusive pair is finally reduced, popular sizes can go quickly, and the email tells you on the day the price changes.
