Zalando was founded in Berlin in 2008 and started out selling shoes – the name comes from “zapatos”, Spanish for shoes. Today it sells clothing, shoes, accessories and beauty from thousands of brands, but only in Europe; there's no US shop. Ireland got its own store, zalando.ie, in 2018, priced in euros and served from Zalando's existing warehouses elsewhere in Europe. The company had already opened a tech office in Dublin in 2015.
Besides the big end-of-season sales, Zalando cuts prices on individual items all year round, often for single colours or sizes, and runs Cyber Week promotions around Black Friday. Part of the range comes from brands and retailers selling through its Partner Programme. Delivery terms for Ireland have changed since launch: Zalando later started charging for delivery on smaller orders while returns stayed free, so check the current conditions at checkout.
Alerts pay off most at Zalando on trainers, jackets and premium brands, where reductions are largest in absolute terms. The Irish store shares Zalando's European range, so many items come in a long list of colours, each with its own product page and price.
