What you should know about ASOS

ASOS was founded in London in 2000; the name originally stood for 'As Seen On Screen', because the site started out selling versions of clothes seen in films and on TV. Today it is an online-only fashion and beauty retailer aimed at young adults, selling more than 850 brands alongside its own labels such as ASOS DESIGN, and it ships worldwide. ASOS Marketplace, launched in 2010, hosts independent boutiques and vintage sellers.

Prices at ASOS move constantly: individual items are marked down, time-limited promo codes come and go, and the big sales arrive at the end of each season and around Black Friday. ASOS Outlet is a permanent section with past-season stock from major brands at reduced prices, and ASOS Premier, a paid annual subscription, offers unlimited next-day delivery and early access to some sales. Since autumn 2024, ASOS has charged a fee on some returns.

Most ASOS products come in many sizes and several colours, and markdowns often hit only some of them. A price alert on the exact colour you want tells you when it's reduced; when the email arrives, check your size straight away, as discounted sizes can sell out fast. Because a return may cost a fee, it's also worth knowing your size before ordering rather than buying two and sending one back.

    Saving tips for ASOS

    • ASOS often runs time-limited, sitewide percentage promotions. Your alarm shows you when the item price itself drops, so you can combine both for the lowest price.

    • Browse ASOS Outlet before paying full price: past-season items from many brands are listed there permanently at reduced prices, and a similar piece may already be discounted.

    • On ASOS Marketplace, each boutique or vintage seller sets its own prices and often has just one piece – if you see a vintage item you love, don't count on it waiting for a price drop.
