Nordstrom grew out of a shoe store that John W. Nordstrom, a Swedish immigrant, and Carl F. Wallin opened in Seattle in 1901, and the company is still headquartered there. Today it runs full-line department stores and the off-price chain Nordstrom Rack across the US, selling fashion, shoes, beauty and home. Since 2025 it has been privately owned by the Nordstrom family together with the Mexican department store group El Puerto de Liverpool. There are no UK stores: British customers order from nordstrom.com through the international service ESW.
The calendar revolves around fixed events: the Anniversary Sale every July, two Half-Yearly Sales and several shorter seasonal sales. Nordstrom cardmembers and the top spending tiers of the Nordy Club loyalty programme get staggered early access to the Anniversary Sale before the general public. For UK orders, ESW shows a guaranteed total at checkout that includes shipping, duties and taxes, so nothing is collected on delivery; free shipping doesn't apply to international orders.
Between the big events, individual items are reduced without much fanfare, and event prices go back up once the sale ends. International orders don't qualify for free returns: return shipping and handling fees come out of your refund, and returns go through the ESW portal, not a store. From the UK, be sure of size and fit before you buy at a sale price.
