Primark opened its first shop in June 1969 on Mary Street in Dublin under the name Penneys, which it still uses in Ireland; elsewhere it has traded as Primark since a 1970s trademark dispute with JCPenney. Owned by Associated British Foods, it sells clothing, footwear, accessories, beauty and homeware at low prices. It reached Great Britain in 1973, opening in Derby, and the US in 2015, when its first American store opened in Boston.
Primark describes its approach as everyday low prices rather than promotion-driven, and in past years it chose not to run Black Friday offers in the UK. Its websites show the range, prices and stock in local stores, but in most countries there is no online checkout. In Great Britain, click & collect lets you order online and pick up in a store, including items normally stocked only in larger branches; in the US, you buy in store.
Since Primark doesn't rely on big sales events, a lower price usually just appears on the product page without fanfare.
