What you should know about Brooks
Brooks was founded in Philadelphia in 1914 and made shoes for a wide range of sports before it filed for bankruptcy protection in 1981 and, from 2001, cut its line-up to focus on running alone. Now based in Seattle and owned by Berkshire Hathaway, it is best known for road shoes such as the Adrenaline GTS – GTS stands for “go-to support” – launched in 1994, and the Ghost, introduced in 2008. brooksrunning.com runs separate stores for the US and the UK, each with its own prices.
The main models are updated roughly once a year and get a new number – the Ghost 17 was followed by the Ghost 18 – so last year's version is usually reduced once its successor arrives. Discounts also show up in the sale section and around Black Friday. The free Brooks Run Club adds perks that depend on the country: the US programme lists free shipping, a birthday gift and early access to some shoes and sales, while the UK one offers free shipping and rewards for running milestones.
Many Brooks shoes exist in several versions that are listed and priced separately: narrow, standard, wide and extra-wide fits, GTS models with GuideRails support such as the Glycerin GTS, and waterproof GTX versions with a Gore-Tex upper. A reduction on one of them doesn't mean the others follow, so set your alert on the exact version, width, colour and size you run in. When the email arrives, check your size straight away, before the reduced pairs in it are gone.
