What you should know about Timberland

Timberland grew out of the Abington Shoe Company, in which shoemaker Nathan Swartz bought a half-interest in 1952. By 1969 the firm specialised in waterproof boots with injection-moulded soles; the Timberland boot followed in 1973, and in 1978 the company took its name. Based in Stratham, New Hampshire, and owned by VF Corporation since 2011, it sells boots, shoes, clothing and accessories, plus Timberland PRO work boots. The US store is timberland.com, while the UK has timberland.co.uk.

Reductions arrive through the sale section, end-of-season clearance and events such as Black Friday, and the brand also runs outlet stores. In the UK, the Timberland Community loyalty programme, launched in 2021, awards points for purchases in UK stores and on timberland.co.uk that can be swapped for rewards, alongside perks such as a birthday treat and member promotions. Limited collaborations – with Supreme, Louis Vuitton or Jacquemus, for example – are released separately from the main range.

The 6-inch boot comes in many colours and materials, from the classic wheat nubuck to black and seasonal shades, and each colourway is listed separately with its own price and stock; men's, women's and kids' versions are separate products too. Reduced pairs are often older or out-of-season colours, and once a size is gone it may not come back. Set your alert on the exact colour and size you want and check stock as soon as the email arrives.

    Saving tips for Timberland

    • Boots are in highest demand in autumn. The best prices usually come at the end of winter – set your alarm and buy when the reduction arrives.

    • Timberland is also sold by retailers such as Zappos in the US and Schuh or JD Sports in the UK, which set their own prices. A second alert on the same boot elsewhere shows you where it drops first.

    • If you shop in the UK, join Timberland Community before buying and log in when you order, so eligible purchases earn points towards rewards on top of any reduction.
