The first Foot Locker opened in 1974 in the Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry, California, as a chain of the Woolworth-owned Kinney Shoe Corporation – the Woolworth group later took the Foot Locker name for the whole company. In September 2025 Dick's Sporting Goods completed its purchase of Foot Locker, which also runs Kids Foot Locker and Champs Sports.
