What you should know about Staples
Staples was founded by Leo Kahn and Thomas Stemberg, who opened the first store in Boston's Brighton neighborhood in 1986; the company is headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts. Since Sycamore Partners bought it in 2017, US retail, Staples Canada and the North American business-delivery arm have been run as separate companies. Staples sold its UK stores in 2016 and its remaining European business in 2017, so staples.com serves US customers. Besides supplies and tech, it sells store brands such as TRU RED, NXT Technologies and Union & Scale.
Staples Easy Rewards is the loyalty programme: members collect points, see member prices on selected products and can earn credit for recycling ink and toner cartridges, within monthly limits. On top come the Coupon Corner, a clearance section, weekly deals, back-to-school and Black Friday. For supplies you reorder regularly, AutoRestock sets up scheduled deliveries. Because offers come from several directions at once, the same item can cost different amounts depending on whether you're signed in and which coupon applies.
For a price alert, Staples is strongest on things with clear model numbers: printers, ink and toner, shredders, monitors and office chairs. Set the alert on the exact version – a black or colour cartridge, a standard or XL high-yield size, a single or multipack – because each has its own price. If you're furnishing a home office, tracking a chair or desk for a few weeks shows you which reductions are real and which are just the regular weekly offer.

Saving tips for Staples
Ink, toner and paper are consumables you buy repeatedly. Track them and stock up when they're reduced.
Sign in to Easy Rewards before you compare: some products show a lower member price, so the price you see as a guest isn't always the one you'd pay as a member.
Compare standard and XL ink cartridges by cost per page rather than sticker price, and take your empties to the store – Easy Rewards members can earn recycling credit on a limited number of cartridges each month.
