What you should know about Microsoft Store
The Microsoft Store is Microsoft's own shop for Surface laptops and tablets, Xbox consoles and accessories, Microsoft 365 subscriptions, and apps and games for Windows. Since Microsoft closed its physical retail stores in 2020, the online store at microsoft.com is the main way to buy directly from the company. US shoppers see prices in dollars and get free 2–3 day shipping with no minimum order; the UK store charges in pounds and also ships free with no minimum purchase.
Surface prices mostly move with limited-time promotions, Black Friday and the holiday season. Both the US and UK stores offer 60-day price protection: if Microsoft lowers the price of a select physical product, or you find it cheaper at an eligible retailer within 60 days of delivery, you can claim a one-time price adjustment. Students, parents and educators get an education discount on selected products – up to 10% in the UK – although in the US it can't be combined with other promotions.
Each Surface model is sold in several configurations – processor, memory, storage and colour all change the price – so set your alert on the exact configuration you want. The same applies to Xbox consoles and their bundles. Because price protection runs for 60 days after delivery, it's worth keeping the alert active after you order: if the price drops within that window, the email is your cue to contact Microsoft Store support.

Saving tips for Microsoft Store
Surface devices are often cheaper at other retailers than in the Microsoft Store. Track the same model in two or three shops.
Microsoft's price protection covers lower prices at eligible retailers, not just its own price cuts. After ordering, keep alerts on the same Surface model at other big shops for 60 days; if one of them drops below what you paid, you can request a one-time adjustment. Exclusions apply, and Microsoft publishes the list of eligible retailers with its terms.
In recent holiday seasons, Microsoft has extended returns and price protection for eligible physical products bought between October and early December until 31 January. If you buy a Surface or Xbox in the autumn, keep your alert running into January – a later price cut can still count.
