Newegg was founded in 2001 by Fred Chang, a Taiwanese immigrant to the US, and is based in Diamond Bar, California. It made its name with PC builders – processors, graphics cards, motherboards, memory and storage – and now also sells laptops, gaming gear and consumer electronics, plus its own Rosewill and ABS brands. Third-party sellers have been able to list on Newegg Marketplace since 2010, and the company has been listed on Nasdaq since 2021.

Prices on Newegg change constantly: Newegg's own offers sit next to marketplace listings for the same part, and some marketplace items carry a "Shipped by Newegg" label, meaning Newegg handles shipping and returns even though another company sells them. For scarce hardware, Newegg has also used Newegg Shuffle, a draw that picks buyers at random. Customers in the UK can order from newegg.com too: estimated VAT and duty are shown and charged at checkout, and any order shipped outside the US needs a signature on delivery.

A price alert is especially handy for graphics cards and CPUs, where prices react quickly to new launches and stock levels. Track the exact model: the same GPU chip comes in many versions from different board partners, with different coolers, clock speeds and prices. And if a part sells out and later returns at a lower price, the alert tells you.
