Shopee was founded in Singapore in February 2015 and belongs to Sea Limited, which also owns the games company Garena; since 2019 its regional headquarters has been a six-storey building at Singapore Science Park. It started as a mobile-first marketplace and now mixes individual sellers with businesses and official brand stores. Prices are set by each seller and move with flash deals, which often run in hourly slots, and with Shopee's monthly campaigns. Brand-name goods are sold in Shopee Mall, launched in Singapore in 2017, whose listings carry a red "Mall" tag.
