Lowe's grew out of a hardware store that Lucius Smith Lowe opened in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, in 1921, and is now headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina. It is the second-largest home improvement chain in the US after The Home Depot. Lowe's has left Australia and Mexico and sold its Canadian business to Sycamore Partners in 2023 – those stores are moving to the RONA banner – so lowes.com now serves US customers only.
